Ulysses S. Grant
Talking about president with weird secrets, Ulysses S. Grant is a great place to start as he had a bunch of them. He was an iconic figure, being commander general in US army. He was the 18th president of the United States from 1869-1877. Even though he had a reputation for being brilliant president and a soldier, he secretly hated wearing his uniform. He would frequently enter battle dressed very shabbily. Possibly more surprising fact is, Grant is terrified at the sight of blood. This can be a fatal problem for someone who is constantly involved in United States battles history.
According to the 1998 book, White House Confidential, President Coolidge had a bizarre morning ritual. Coolidge was the 30th President of the United States and served from August, 1923 to March, 1929. He was known as the man of decisive action and known and embodied the spirit and hopes of the middle class. But he also had a strange and kind of dark secret. In the morning, when he had breakfast, he liked to have petroleum jelly massaged into his scalp. Coolidge believed that there are massive health benefits to be gained from this strange practice.
William Howard Taft
He served as the 27th President of the United States between 1909 and 1913. He’s also the only person who has held both the Presidential body of the United States and the Chief Justice of the entire country. Despite of having long and successful political career there’s one embarrassing story that he wished he had kept it a secret. Taft was known for being overweight and one night on the white house after soaking in the bath, he was unable to get himself out. After being stuck, it’s said that wherever the 159 kg of Taft went, the bathtub of the same size must be readily available.
It’s widely believed that Lyndon Johnson, so served right after John F. Kennedy’s assassination was obsessed with being the greatest president of united states of all time. This desire to be more popular and dominate people’s opinion was evident in number of strange behaviors. He showed grotesque behavior in order to shock and intimidate the people. This included spitting and swearing at people or just laughing in their faces.
Andrew Jackson was the 7th President of the United States and served from 1829 to 1837. He believed in fighting against the corrupt elite and had a famous career as a general in US army. But like the other presidents, he didn’t have a weird secret but a dark one. At that time, divorce was frowned upon and Jackson had a divorcee named Rachel long before he took office. Not only that she was divorced, she claimed that Jackson and she lived together before she was legally separated from her former husband. News media jumped in on this scandal and called her bigamist and an adulteress and attacking Jackson’s presidency. Rachel died three months before Jackson took over at the office and also blamed his opponents for her death.
John Quincy Adams
He was the 6th president of the United States and served from 1825 till 1829. He was extremely good politician and down to earth with humble nature. But however, the sixth president believed in a hollow earth theory which argued that the earth had a huge cavern at the center. He also believed that there was a giant hole at the north pole that led to the subterranean world. A world that Adams believed was inhabited by the mole people. He actually approved to make a secret expedition to find the underground world.
As the first President of the United States, Washington has been greatly valued at being one of the most brilliant leaders of all times. That being said, he had a number of weird secrets that were only revealed after his death. One of those secret, included that Washington grew hemp and he also grew psychoactive cannabis for his own recreational use.
George Bush Senior
This is the most bizarre diplomatic incident that took place to a president and definitely qualifies as a weird secret. The Prime Minister of Japan had hosted an evening which Bush had attended. The room was filled with 135 other diplomats who had been welcomed in the Prime Minister’s home. But during the event, Bush felt ill and he collapsed. That’s when his head fell in the lap of the Prime Minister and he threw up all over him.
Reagan was the 40th president of the United States and served from 1981 to 1989. But just after five years when his presidency ended, his own daughter Patty Davis became a playboy playmate. She posed nude on the cover of the playboy magazine.
He was the President from 1977 to 1981. He achieved a lot in his life including being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize and helping to fight against illnesses in Africa. Despite Carter’s achievements, some remember him as the UFO president. According to him, in about 1969 he encountered upon a UFO. He was a governor of Georgia at the time and reported the sighting.
