Batwoman: Kate Kane To Become The First LGBT Lead

Batwoman series has been placed into development as a series for the CW by Warner Bros. The show will be launched as an addition to collection of shows like The Flash, Supergirl,Legends of Tomorrow and Black Lightning.

Staring Lesbian Superhero; Batwoman is described as a woman “armed with a passion for social justice and flair for speaking her mind” who will be introduced this December at the CW’s annual DC Comics crossover event.

According to the script development deal revealed by CW, the former executive producer of The Vampire Diaries Caroline Dries and the architect of the CW Arrowverse, Greg Berlanti will be writing the project.

Kate Kane is a new lesbian hero who has appeared to wipe the crime in the city. But she has her own issues. In the show’s synopsis, they mention that, “In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.”

Batwoman has been the highest-profile gay character among the entire DC comic. The co-publisher of DC Comics, Dan Didio said, “we wanted to have a cast that is much more reflective of today’s society and even today’s fan base” when he wrote her as a gay character.

In the 1950s, Batwoman was introduced as a love interest for Batman to dismiss buzzes of his own homosexuality. But in 2006, Batwoman was reestablished as a lesbian character.

Kate Kane, the second incarnation of the Batwoman character in DC Comics, will become the first LGBT lead of a live-action superhero show if Batwoman is picked to air.
