Henry Cavill No Longer Superman?

Henry Cavill is rumored to have sported his red cape for the last time. Warner Bros. shifting focus to Supergirl movie.

Henry Cavill is rumored to have sported his red cape for the last time. The actor graced the screens with a promising portrayal of Superman in 2013’s Man of Steel, and later in 2016’s Batman vs Superman and 2017’s Justice League.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Warner Bros. had been negotiating a Superman cameo in the upcoming “Shazam!” movie starring Zachary Levi, but the contract talks broke down due to scheduling conflicts.

Speculations point to this coming as a result of Cavill recently having signed on to star in the Netflix series The Witcher. However, another source says that this signing came only after the Warners impasse, suggesting that there was a change in studio strategy.

Warners is also not likely to work on a solo Superman movie anytime soon. “Superman is like James Bond, and after a certain run you have to look at new actors,” a studio source told the Hollywood Reporter. This is reportedly due to the fact that Warners is shifting their focus to a Supergirl movie in which Superman would have to be portrayed by a much younger actor.

However, a statement from a Warner Bros. spokesperson also read, “We have a great relationship and great respect for Henry Cavill that continues to remain unchanged. Additionally we have made no current decisions regarding any upcoming Superman films,” after the initial publication of this story.

Many have already taken to twitter to express how they feel about the departure:

Fans even want him to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe:
