Kim Jong-un’s visit to China

Kim Jong-un, leader of the North Korea has arrived in Beijing, the capital city of China. It was an unannounced visit and he came on behalf of the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. According to state media reports, Mr. Kim will be staying in China until 10th January. His trip to China was along with his wife Ri Sol ju.

The report states that the reason for his visit is to make negotiations for a second summit between Mr. Kim and US President Donald Trump. President Trump and Kim met last on June.

The speculations had grown about his arrival on Monday. It was reported that North Korean train had been seen crossing the border and Mr. Kim was most likely making his way to China after South Korea’s Yonhap news.

The roads were blocked by dozens of security vehicles along with officials. The train had stopped at a station in the border town of Dandong.  The Hotel guests staying in Dandong had not been allowed to enter rooms that faced the border.  One of the news source known as Kyodo named move as an “apparent move to prevent the train from being seen”.

Mr. Kim’s very distinctive green and yellow train arrived at a station in Beijing during daytime on Tuesday. The same train was used during Mr. Kim’s first visit to China. This train resembled the train that was being used by his father Kim Jong-il during his visits to China and Russia on 2011. A motorcade of Mr.Kim with his heavy security was later seen driving through central Beijing.

Surprisingly Mr.Kim had not met Mr.Xi.  He did not meet Mr.Xi for first six years of his leadership of North Korea. But again surprisingly enough, last year he visited China about three times.
