Gully Boy is a movie about the youth of India and their passion to chase after their biggest dreams, despite socio-economic barriers. Particularly, it is about Murad, a 22-year old driver’s son from ghetto Mumbai, who was educated by his parents so that he could have a white-collar job. The Gully boy realizes his passion for hip-hop and works towards his goal of becoming a renowned rapper in the street music industry. Met by opposition from parents and pressure to succeed, Murad meets MC Sher who helps his through his journey towards musical success and transcendence of class through music.
MC Sher, or the cute boy who mentors Murad, has shown a mesmerizing performance in the movie. The cute boy MC Sher is a new-debutant who was discovered by the Director of Gully Boy, Zoya Akhtar herself. The movie is star-studded with the biggest celebs in the industry, but young girls and boys are awe-struck by the performance and cuteness of the newly debuted actor, Siddhant Chaturvedi.
Siddhant Chaturvedi disclosed in an interview that Zoya Akhtar discovered him when he was dancing at the success party of Inside Edge, an Amazon Prime Show. The Director approached him and asked who he was. When he introduced himself as Siddhant Chaturvedi, he was asked to audition for Gully Boy if he hadn’t already. She asked him to prepare rap songs of rappers such as Divine and Naezy.
With little knowledge about rap, he found that the songs of Divine and Naezy all described struggles similar to his. He stayed up all night to write his personal rap song. The very next day he received a call from an unknown number. He was called by Director Zoya Akhtar to confirm his role in the movie.
Siddhant Chaturvedi is an Indian actor born in Nagwa, Balia (Uttar Pradesh) on April 29, 1993. Born to a Chartered accountant father and homemaker mother, he moved from UP to Mumbai at five years of age. He graduated from Mithibai College and was pursuing Chartered accountancy along with theaters.
A position at the talent hunt organized by Bombay Times confirmed his decision to pursue his passion in performing arts. He is well-trained in western and classical dancing, martial arts and parkour to compliment his acting skills. His interests include poetry-writing and painting.
He debuted with the youth-oriented sitcom Luv Sahi Hai by Luv Films and starred in the first Indian- American web series amazon prime show Inside Edge. Inside Edge was nominated for Best Drama at the 46th International Emmy Awards. He has been featured in various ad campaigns, with one for Coca-Cola.
